Today I ran into a family (pictured) from Nagano’s Shiojiri City, with the father telling me, “I love your site! I carried my one-year-old here on my back.” The mother added, “We often read your slope reports to check the conditions, especially when it comes to powder. We can’t wait to come skiing with our child!” It was a very lively Saturday at Happo, with many families on the mountain.

The weather has been mostly cloudy and rainy since the start of the rainy season on 6/8 (Thu.), but this morning it was clear and sunny, and the weather forecast is calling for clear skies to continue tomorrow and on through 6/21 (Wed.). The temperature was very comfortable without being too hot or too cold, and the occasional light breeze was pleasant as I started climbing and gaining more and more elevation.

I spoke with a stafff member along the way who told me that the restrooms near the No. 2 Cairn have been open for use since 6/13 (Tue.), and that in addition to the first half of the wooden boardwalk trail, which is already open, the second half of the trail will be opened next week in light of the fact that it does not need repairs. There were many alpine flowers blooming in the vicinity of the No. 3 Cairn, including kumoma sumire (pictured), umehada zao, and hosoba tsumekusa.

Additionally, many other varieties of flowers were in bloom along the entirety of the Nature Trail, such as yukiwariso, miyama azumagiku, harurindo, and koiwakagami. The cap of snow convering the Happo Pond (pictured) has completely receded from the shore, but the route to the deck on the south side of the pond was still partially covered in snow and roped off.
