This year, many schools across the country will begin their summer vacations on 7/21 (Fri.). With that in mind, Hakuba Tsugaike WOW! reopened the “Amidas” and “Pochadas” attractions on 7/15 (Sat.), with a new VR (Virtual Reality) attraction set to open on 7/22 (Sat.). During this three-day weekend, there was a noticeable transition to summer-like conditions, exemplified by the intensity of the sunlight and the color of the sky. (*The “Tobidas” attraction is pictured here.)

“Amidas” (pictured) is a trampoline-like, netted play area that sits 5 meters above the ground. The total play area has is now 1.6 times larger, increasing in size from 320 square meters to 512 square meters, thanks to an expansion on the south side of the structure. In addition, an obstacle course-style series of ropes has also been installed, which enhances the number of ways to play and have fun.

As for “Pochadas” (pictured), more floating playground equipment has been added to the water. The pond that the equipment occupies is sourced partially by melting snow, so the water temperature is around 15°C, which makes it much cooler than the the standard 26° to 31°C for pools. However, those who get cold can warm up in the tent sauna (included in the price of admission) by the side of the pond.

The ever popular “Kogidas” (pictured) is a thrilling bicycle ride through the air, across a wire stretching 10 meters above the ground. I spoke with a group of four from Tokyo, Kanagawa and Chiba (pictured), who told me that they had just tried it for the first time. They all agreed that it was “more fun than scary!” The same tower that serves to support Kogidas also houses “Tobidas”, where visitors descend from a height of 12 meters, and jump onto a large air mat, and “Kabedas”, where they can experience climbing up a vertical wall.
