Iwatake REPORT

2023.07.17Hakuba Iwatake / Sunny

One of the charms of Iwatake may be that it’s easy to find your own space to kick back and relax, and at CHUMS RIDGE, visitors are able to freely use both the large tarps and chairs (pictured, back right) and also the pop-up sunshades (pictured, left) located in the area. I spoke with a father of a family from Chiba Prefecture (pictured), who told me, “We’re staying in Hakuba for the three-day weekend and the whole family really enjoyed mountain biking together!”

It goes without saying that tarps, decks, and chairs located in the IWATAKE GREEN PARK area are also free to use. Additionally, a father from Kanagawa Prefecture (pictured, center) commented to me about how great it was that Iwatke has so many pet-friendly areas and facilities. In other news, a new pet-specific scenic deck, as well as a new dog run (in the Nezukonomori area) are set to debut on 7/22 (Sat.).

The extended portion of the terrace at HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR (pictured) is another space that can be yours for a moment for a photo or to take in the panoramic views. Currently THE CITY BAKERY is offering a few special summer-only menu items as of 7/15 (Sat) including the CB Cookie Shake Coconut Caramel, that, as the name suggests, features coconut cookies and caramel ice cream (¥800 yen, tax included). Other summer items include pizzas made with in-store, handmade focaccia bread and topped with either Shinshu Pork sausage & or tuna, corn, potato, and mayonnaise (¥770 yen each, tax included).

Iwatake’s Yoo-Hoo! Swing (pictured, background) has been a big hit ever since it opened. Today I observed some visitors watching children having a great time on the swing from the shaded deck nearby (pictured, foreground). The heat and intensity of the summer sun were palpable, but in the shaded areas such as in the forest or under a tarp, the gentle breeze felt quite comfortable.
