Today marked the conclusion of the HAKUBA “YOO-HOO!” (ヤッホー！) FESTIVAL 2022. The outdoor music festival with performances by 6 famous artists and groups was a great success with more than 1,000 people in attendance. During the set of festival producer ISEKI (formerly with the group Kimaguren), a huge applause followed the announcement between songs that the tickets for the festival had sold out.

Despite preventative measures against the spread of COVID-19 that asked attendees to refrain from singing or speaking loudly during the artists’ performances, the crowd found alternative ways to enjoy and follow the music, by waving their hands, swinging towels and clapping along. I noticed customers taking advantage of the VIP Plan in the Buna no Mori summit area (pictured, foreground) indulging in BBQ as they listed to the live music. (*Pictured on stage is wacci.)

The road leading to the YOO-HOO! Swing (pictured) was lined with food trucks and food tents selling hamburgers, crepes, curry, ramen, fried chicken, meat skewers and kebabs. A variety of items were on sale in the area in front of the stage, such as artist merchandise, clothing, soft drinks, alcohol, and food.

The last 3 sets of the day featured Leo Ieiri (pictured), known for producing numerous TV theme songs, Hitomi Yaida, whose song “Darling Darling” has surpassed 1 million sales, and Sukima Switch who closed things out. For the encore, GAKU-MC, ISEKI, Hitomi Yaida and Sukima Switch took the stage together for an exciting performance of “Zenryoku Shonen” that had the audience engages down to the very last note.
