Today was the second sunny day in a row, and the second consecutive perfectly clear morning. One section of the wooden boardwalk on the eastern side of the Watasuge Shitsugen (pictured) is currently closed for construction, but you can still reach a great photo spot by backtracking 150m from the junction on the Kusugawa (Kusu River) side. From there it was well worth the views and the autumn leaves currently at around 70% of their peak.

The number of early morning visitors was quite high despite it being a weekday, likely because of the fact that the best season for fall leaves has arrived. The bench at the edge of the Ukishima marsh is a popular photo spot, with lots of visitors stopping to capture the beauty of the fall scenery along with the waters of the small pond (pictured). Amongst them were a few photographers waiting for the easterly winds to die down in order to capture the perfectly reflected autumn shades.

The latest forecast shows the weather taking a turn for the worse beginning on 10/5 (Wed.), so this Saturday and Sunday may be the last best weekend to experience the fall leaves at the Tsugaike Nature Park this year. By adding Tsugaike Kogen’s Official LINE Account as a friend, you can receive a “Kids Free” coupon valid during Autumn Week (9/23 to 10/2)..

The red accents splashed across the mountainside are primarily from the leaves of the Nanakamado (Japanese rowan), while the shades of yellow are provided mostly by Kaede (maples, pictured) and Dakekanba (Erman’s Birch). Today the beautiful fall colors really stood out against the backdrop of the bright blue sky. At this time of the season the leaves can change significantly from day to day, so I’d really like to come back tomorrow and the next day so as not to miss anything. By the way, Mt. Fuji received its first dusting of snow today.

*Currently, repair work is underway on a 120-meter section of wooden boardwalk on the eastern side of the Watasuge Shitsugen. As of 10/14, the project is scheduled to be completed in around 10 days, but the new boardwalk will be unveiled to the public next year after the spring snowmelt.
