Hakuba Tsugaike WOW! is open between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. from Fridays to Mondays during the months of September and October. (*WOW! is closed the rest of the week, from Tuesdays to Thursday.) Today I spoke with the husband of a couple from Shizuoka Prefecture (pictured, right) who had just tried Kogidas for the first time. He told me he was a Snownavi fan, and added, “Kogidas was fun, but I was too scared to take both hands off of the handlebars. I tried Tobidas earlier and that was definitely less scary.” I did notice that the Tobidas Tower was pretty popular right from the start of the day.

Over at Amidas (pictured), children were running around and enthusiastically navigating the obstacles, playing tag, and more. In order to escape the intense sun, the break area in front of the entrance to Amidas is outfitted with a shade tent and chairs. Eagle-eyed viewers might notice that the Shirakaba Slope located behind WOW! has was been mowed in the last week or two, in preparation for winter.

By the way, two new menu items are available at Konayuki Cafe this summer: a “Cuban Sandwich” (pictured, ¥800) and “Salad Udon with Walnut Sauce” (¥1,100). The Cuban Sandwich is a classic offering from the state of Florida, U.S.A, consisting of roast pork, ham, cheese, pickles, and mustard toasted on the griddle. The crispy surface of the bread and the perfectly salted roast pork are accented nicely by the acidity of the pickles.

Fumidas (pictured) is an attraction where visitors jump off the Tobidas Tower, from a height of 6 meters, onto a large air mat below. The jump itself is over in an instant, but it can take some time to work up the courage to make the leap. Speaking of courage, I observed two women from Gunma Prefecture trying to overcome their fears while sitting at the start of the Tobidas attraction located in the same tower.
