Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort kicked off its “green season” today, 4/19 (Fri.), 9 days earlier than last year! Speaking of last year, Iwatake had a combined total of 369,000 visitors in summer and winter, which is the highest number since the year 2000. Lines began to form for the popular “Yoo-hoo! Swing” (pictured, JPY500/use), shortly after Iwatake opened for business.

Iwatake’s other swing, the Hakuba Giant Swing (pictured, JPY1,000 yen/use), is the first “wind-up” swing in Japan. I spoke with a woman from Osaka, who told me, “This is my first visit to Iwatake. I didn’t imagine I would have an experience like Heidi. That was a lot of fun!”

I also had a conversation with some students (pictured) from Saitama and Kanagawa prefectures who remarked, “We love your site! We skied at Goryu 47 yesterday, and today we are sightseeing. The Yoo-hoo! Swing felt great, but we were slightly embarrassed by the music playing while we were swinging.” The Hakuba Hitotoki-no-Mori was already set up with tech balls (pictured) and tables & chairs for customers to use freely.

As for the resort’s restaurants and cafes, THE CITY BAKERY (pictured), CHAVATY HAKUBA, Hakuba DELI, Skyark Deck Cafe, Hakuba DELI STAND, and Soup Stock Tokyo are all open, and the buggy (ATV) cruise that goes through the remaining snow is now in operation with caterpillar tracks. The Hitotoki Downhill MTB Experience, Mountain Kart, and Hakuba Iwatake MTB PARK are scheduled to open on 4/26 (Fri.). Horseback riding, Nezukonomori, and the dog run will open as soon as the remaining snow is gone.
