Kurohime Kogen is famous for its cosmos flowers in summer, but has also become popular as a camping area over the past few years. This year Kurohime has taken things a step further, and opened up a new “Buggy Trail” that makes the most of the vast expanse of the ski resort! This morning, I spoke to a group of four people from Saitama Prefecture (pictured), who told me, “We’re staying one night at a car-accessed camping site. These buggies are quite thrilling, and lots of fun!”

Those who meet the requirements can drive the Buggy Trail by themselves. The first step is to drive on the “Experience Course,” which is near Yellow Garden and marked off by green cones. (*2,200JPY for junior high school students and older, 1,100JPY for children from 3 years olds to elementary school age, and dogs) There are two types of buggies: car-like vehicles (pictured), and another which is ATV-style.

Those who have completed the experience course can apply for the plan that takes them on a roundtrip ride of the scenic “Tenbo Trail.” (4,400JPY for junior high school students and older, 2,200JPY for children from 3 years olds to elementary school age, and dogs). Operating the vehicle is very similar to driving a standard car, but the 1.5-km one-way course to the View Spot (pictured, The end of the Leo Course → the middle to top of the Monkey Course → the start of Leo → 2nd Pair boarding area) is on a sloped dirt trail, so it is even more exciting than you might expect!

When I arrived at the View Spot (pictured), which has a deck with chairs made from stumps, I had a beautiful view of Lake Nojiri and the fresh green scenery of Kita-Shinano. I drove the vehicle there by myself, but the staff led the way so I didn’t make a wrong turn. In other news, KUROHIME KOGEN BEER, which serves Kurohime craft beer, will open at night on 5/3 (Fri.) and 5/4 (Sat.).
