The HAKUBA YOO-HOO! FESTIVAL kicked off today, 5/18 (Sat.). On this first day, a drumming performance by the Shinshu Otari Taiko group and a cheerleading demonstration were held on a special stage in front of SKYARK in the morning, and the free, official Opening Act (pictured) began at 2:00 p.m. Three scenic yoga sessions led by KAYO MIYABAYASHI took place at Hakuba Hitotoki-no-mori at 10:30, 12:00, and 13:00 (Free participation and yoga mat rental.).

The Opening Act consisted of Kano Nojima from et-and-, Beverly, and nobodyknows+. Kano Nojima (pictured) is a former member of SKE48 and a singing contest winner who is performing at this event for the third time. In fact, she will perform again tomorrow, Sunday, as well. Beverly charmed the audience with her powerful voice and pitch.

However, the hip-hop group nobodyknows+ (photo) brought the most excitement to the stage today with their brief set, playing six songs that got the audience waving their hands and grooving along together, including “Kokoro Odoru;” one of their signature songs that has also performed at the NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen.

The evening festivities included a scenic “Hakuballoon” tethered hot air balloon flight (pictured). The flight offers a rare, fantastic opportunity to see the panoramic views from the skies above Iwatake. The “Zekkei Hakuballoon” will be held again next Saturday, 5/25. (*Reservations required; JPY3,500 for adults, JPY2,500 for children 3 years old to elementary, and JPY500 for pets).

*May 25 (Sat.) & 26 (Sun.) are the climax of the festival, and live music performances by ISEKI (formerly of Kimaguren), Gospellers, DEEN, Sukima Switch, Hitomi Yaida, HY, DEEN, and more!
