Tsugaike REPORT

2024.06.22Tsugaike Nature Park / Cloudy

During the summer season, cloudy days at Tsugaike Kogen are actually quite enjoyable, because the temperatures are cool and comfortable, and the lack of crowds means you have more space to stretch out and play. At Hakuba Tsugaike WOW!, the Kogidas (pictured), Amidas, Tobidas, Fumidas, Kabedas, and trampoline activities are open only on weekends until 7/12 (Fri). “Buggy Cruises” are scheduled to begin on 7/13 (Sat.), and Pochadas on 7/20 (Sat.).

I spoke with a family from Osaka (pictured), who told me, “This is our first visit to Tsugaike. The breeze blowing through is nice and cool.” At the time of this phot at 1:30 p.m., they were the only people using Amidas. In other news, the Japan Meteorological Agency announced that the Kanto Koshin region is considered to have entered the rainy season around 6/21 (Fri.).

Right now, late spring and early summer flowers are in full bloom within the Chubu-Sangaku National Park’s Tsugaike Nature Park. Chinguruma (Aleutian avens), one of the well-known alpine plants, was at its best, while the number of kinugasaso (Paris Japonicam, pictured) was increasing, and benihana ichigo (rubus vernus) were beginning to bloom. As for the sankayo skeleton flowers, some of the flowers had begun to fall, but there were still many plants with buds on them.

Today marks the opening of the Tsugaike Hutte, Hakuba Oike Sanso, and Hakuba-dake Chojo Shukusha mountain huts. I had a conversation with the father (pictured, far left) of a family from Ina City in Nagano Prefecture, who said, “We have been to Tsugaike many times in winter for snowboarding, but this is our first visit to the Tsugaike Nature Park in summer. My wife’s mother and her siblings are with us today. I would love to climb Mt. Norikura with my daughters someday!”
