Iwatake REPORT

2024.07.02Hakuba Iwatake / Sunny

The CHUMS corner, located in Iwatake’s SKYARK Cafe, opened last year and is well-stocked with a variety of useful and fashionable items. (*This photo is from last year.) This year, Montbell jackets and parkas, along with THE NORTH FACE t-shirts and caps have been added to the apparel lineup, as well as CHUMS totes, shoes, and sunglasses. Other popular items on hand include mugs, stainless steel tumblers, and flying discs.

Since the start of the rainy season on 6/21 (Fri.), we have seen characteristic rainy season weather, including almost twice the normal amount of precipitation, but it also feels that we are seeing blue skies more often than expected. It was quite cool on the terrace (pictured) first thing this morning, thanks in part to a nice easterly breeze! In other news, the glass barrier facing the Northern Alps has been given a thorough cleaning following the recent maintenance. (*You can easily see the difference by comparing this photo to the second photo from our 6/14 report.)

Visitors to Iwatake that are keen to enjoy a variety of activities may want to try an “Activity Mankitsu Set Plan.” (*Weekdays only, available until 7/19.) Of the three packages available, the “Activity Otoku Pack” (¥5,000) is a fantastic option that includes a ride on the Yoo-Hoo! Swing and the Hakuba Giant Swing, as well as unlimited mountain cart rides. In addition, purchasers can try mountain biking on the Hitotoki Downhill course and try a Buggy Cruise (pictured) once each.

I spoke with a family from Chiba Prefecture who commented, “We came to Iwatake for the first time to show our children (pictured) how amazing and wonderful nature is. You can’t see this kind of scenery in the city. It’s been a refreshing experience.” Incidentally, the CHUMS tables and chairs scattered around the Hakuba Hitotoki-no-mori area can be used freely.
