Iwatake REPORT

2024.06.29Hakuba Iwatake / Sunny

The north side of the Iwatake summit area (pictured), which is the location of the North and View Slopes in winter, is now the venue for summer Buggy Cruises and Horseback Riding activities. On 6/29 (Sat.), the morning air was fresh and clear following the early rain, and buggies were actively traveling back and forth on the wet route.

The leashed horseback riding experience is available for those who are at least 100 cm tall and weigh 80 kg or less, and children are allowed to ride alone. (*JPY2,000 per person including helmet rental.) A boaring platform with steps assits riders in getting on and off the horse. I spoke with a father from England who told me, “I’m in Japan for about four months on business. This is the second time for my eldest daughter (pictured, left) to ride a horse, and the first time for my second daughter (pictured, right).” The girls both commented on how much fun it was.

Guided Horse Trekking is also available on the View Slope when reserved through Horse Land Azumino’s website or by phone (0263-73-8275). (*JPY15,000 per person for one hour.) I caught up with a man from Tokyo (pictured, center) who mentioned, “This is my first visit to Iwatake. My girlfriend (pictured, right) surprised me with horse trekking for my birthday. I was a little nervous, but it was fun.”

The HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR deck was damp in the morning, but as you can see, it was dry enough to sit directly on by 9:30 a.m. Several events will take place tomorrow, 6/30 (Sun.), including a Chinese Fiddle concert by Kento Takayama held in the beech forest at the summit (*venue will be moved indoors in the case of rain), and the SHIMANO ENS 2024 #3 HAKUBA IWATAKE event within the Hakuba Iwatake MTB PARK.
