Summer skies have finally arrived. Following the end of the rainy season in southern Kyushu yesterday, the rainy season officially concluded in the Tokai and Kanto-Koshin regions today, 7/18 (Thurs.). I was pretty taken aback by the long line that had formed at the gondola base station prior to opening, and a staff member at the parking lot commented, “It’s a weekday, but there are a lot of cars here already this morning.”

Both the Mountain Climbing Course and Wooden Boardwalk Course had beautiful iwa-shimotsuke (Spiraea nipponica), kinkoka (Narthecium asiaticum), hana-nigana (Ixeris dentata), and Tateyama utsubogusa (Prunella prunelliformis) in full bloom. Between the Happo Cairn and the No. 3 Cairn, several other varieties of alpine flowers were in full bloom. In addition, oyama-soba (pictured), akabana shimotsuke-so, miyama toki, and kuruma-yuri lillies could be seen throughout the entire Nature Trail.

In other news, a stamp rally is being held on the Happo-One Nature Trail from 7/13 (Sat.), and you can get a commemorative badge and a certificate of achievement by obtaining stamps at 7 locations along the route. In addition, if you get a stamp at the special check-in point at Mt. Karamatsu (唐松岳), you will receive a Karamatsu-dake commemorative climbing badge.

The restroom near the No. 2 Cairn is now usable as of 7/13 (Sat.) and the restroom next to Happo-ike Sanso mountain hut went into service today, 7/18 (Thu.). The nikkokisuge day lillies in the Kamaike Marsh are now past their peak. On the Grat Quad on the way back down the mountain, the clouds and cool air soothed my fatigue from trekking.
