This morning, I spoke with a father from Tokyo (pictured), who told me, “Last time I came alone in the fall, and it was so good that I brought my family this time.” Nowadays, the Mountain Carts are just as popular as the two swings. Although it was a weekday, many elementary and junior high schools are on summer vacation, and a lot of families were visiting right from the morning.

On 7/18 (Thurs.), the end of the rainy season was officially declared for the Kanto-Koshin region, four days earlier than last year. Although I felt the heat from the sun today, it was cool and comfortable in the shade of the beech forest (pictured) and other trees at the top of the mountain. The HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR terrace was crowded with people taking commemorative photos.

As of 7/13 (Sat.), CHAVATY HAKUBA is offering Muscat & Jasmine Tea Soft Serve (pictured), which combines the elegant and rich aroma of Nagano-grown Shine Muscat grapes with the rich and smooth flavor of Jasmine, as well as “Blueberry Tea Soda” (¥680), which pairs Hakuba blueberries with the refreshing flavor of Earl Grey. HAKUBA DELI and THE CITY BAKERY, which featured in our last report, are also offering seasonal menus featuring summer ingredients as of 7/13 (Sat.).

The Hakuba Giant Swing (pictured), the first wind-up swing in Japan, is a swing that can be ridden without the need to swing yourself. Some people seemed to be intimidated and excited at the size of the swing as they settled on. I spoke with four visitors from Kumamoto, Tokyo, and Kanagawa Prefecture, with one telling me, “This is our first visit to Iwatake. It was nice to see the mountainous scenery as it’s quite different from Kumamoto. The swing was a lot of fun!”
