It’s the season of perfect summer skies at Iwatake, and the IWATAKE SUMMER NIGHT 2024 event is coming up on 8/3 (Sat.). The gondola will operate from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. for the event, which will feature a free DJ set at HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR (pictured), 30 “Special Night BBQ” sets, free handouts of Nagano-grown watermelon, and a fireworks display. Iwatake was alive with visitors right from the morning today on this summer day.

The beech forest (pictured) at the summit of Mt. Iwatake was a popular spot for relaxing, and I overheard people exclaiming how nice and cool it was. On 8/6 (Tue.), a classical violin and piano concert called “Hakuba Jazz Experience Harmony in Iwatake” will be held here, and on the following day, 8/7, a concert by Masayuki Kino and his seminar students will also take place. (*Admission is free for both concerts, gondola fees are paid separately.)

In related news, the South Slope (pictured) will be the venue for the IWATAKE SUMMER NIGHT 2024 fireworks display on 8/3 (Sat.), so visitors can sit on the deck or on the grassy lawn and enjoy the fireworks. Today, the three tarps provided shade on the deck, where visitors could relax and enjoy the cool breeze coming up from the foot of the mountain.

At the SPICY rental shop next to the gondola, mountain bikes from Rossignol and Rocky Mountain Bicycles are available to rent. (*Full suspension mountain bikes start at JPY7,000 for 2 hours, while mountain bikes for children start from JPY4,000 for 2 hours.) You can also rent helmets (JPY1,500/day), full-face helmets (JPY2,500/day), gloves (JPY500/day), and protectors (JPY1,500/day), so all you have to do is show up!
