The sky was clear today, and a noticeably different color from the cloudy skies during the rainy season! I watched as the father of a family from Hyogo Prefecture (pictured, left) soared out into the bright blue sky on the Yoo-Hoo! Swing. Afterwards, he told me, “The swing felt so good. After Iwatake, we’re heading to Oide Park.”

I also spoke with a mother from Tokyo, who said, “My daughter (pictured) already did the Yoo-Hoo! Swing, and now she’s trying horseback riding for the first time” After she finished, the young daughter commented, “I was jerked around a little when moving, but the horse was cute.” If you want to enjoy the feeling of moving through the summer sky, Iwatake’s two swings are great, but the high vantage point gained during horseback riding is another good option. The leashed horseback riding experience is JPY2,000, and includes helmet rental.

I crossed paths with a woman from Kanagawa Prefecture who was with the children of a relative. She told me, “The kids’ main objective was to try the Sky Trampoline.” Staff were on hand to assist the children, who could be seen jumping high and somersaulting in the summer sky (pictured, JPY1,500 for 3 minutes, ages 3 to 60 years old, 15 to 60 kg). The nearby air trampoline was also quite popular. (*JPY500 for 10 minutes, ages 12 and under.)

It is relatively cool at the top of the mountain, but I still found myself sweating a lot as I moved around, and it was essential to stay hydrated. I had a conversation with a man from Tokyo (pictured), who told me, “I came here in my campervan with my dog, Shell. I’ve skied here before in winter, but this is my first time in Hakuba in summer.” By the way, there are two dog runs at Iwatake, one at the entrance of Nezukonomori and the other just beyond the location of the horseback riding experience area.
