A couple from Toyama Prefecture (Right in Photo) gave me the greeting, “We always enjoy your reports! Today, we will go up to Mt. Hakuba and stay at Hakuba Sanso Hut. We will also trek to Mt. Shakushi, Mt. Hakuba Yarigatake and down to Sarukura tomorrow. We expect we will have a good Mountain’s Day.” One of the staff of Tsugaike Visitor Center also said, “I heard that bookings of over 600 people are made at Hakuba Sanso Hut. The trails should be busy today.”

As I expected, the trails were crowded with people and a long line lasted to Tenguppara. I got sweaty at that time, but it was not so hot on the east face of Mt. Hakuba Norikura (Photo) thanks to the south wind. Around my foot, there were cute flowers of Hakusan Fuuro, Tateyama Rindo, Usagigiku and so on.

In the upper part of the east face, 20 meters of the snow valley (Photo) still remained (*However, we didn’t need crampons). Around this snow, we could find late flowers of Chinguruma. There were also various flowers of Himeshajin, Miyamakogomegusa and Touyaku Rindo around the summit area of Mt. Hakuba Norikura.

When the deep blue waterface of Hakuba Oike jumped into our eyes (Photo), I heard people saying, “How beautiful!” and “This view is amazing!” After that, the clouds came to Hakuba Oike from the ridge and not only the 3 peaks of Hakuba and Mt. Korenge, but also Mt. Hakuba Norikura were covered with clouds at around noon.

＊Hours … Tsugaike Ropeway is open from 6:30 a.m. until 8/18, from 7:00 a.m. on 8/24, 8/25, and 8/31, and from 8:00 a.m. on 8/19 – 8/23 and 8/26 – 8/30.
＊Fees … Tsugaike Ropeway Roundtrip + Entrance Fee / Adults JPY3,700, Elementary School Students JPY2,100, Preschoolers Free → Advance Discount Tickets: Adults JPY3,300, Children JPY1,850! (No need to exchange at the ticket window! You can proceed straight to the gondola.)
