Happo REPORT

2024.08.02Happo-One / Sunny

It was a busy start to the morning on this sunny day during the summer holidays, and by 6:50 a.m. there was a 50-meter line to buy tickets at the gondola base station ticket office. In addition, the Kurobishi parking lot was almost full before 7:15, when the Kurobishi No. 3 Pair started moving. Incidentally, if you buy an advance discount lift ticket, you can go straight to the gondola without having to queue at the ticket office.

I rushed to the top of the mountain in the morning to take a photo of the three major Hakuba peaks reflected in the Happo Pond. Temperatures were cool, below 20℃, and I felt a light southwesterly breeze blowing beyond the No. 2 Cairn. After arriving at the viewing deck, the ripples across the surface of the Happo Pond died down for a brief moment, and I overheard visitors marveling over the beauty of the scenery.

This morning, not only were the views of the Northern Alps spectacular, but so too were the wispy clouds streaked across the deep blue summer sky. I spoke to two people from Toyama Prefecture, who told me, “‘What a beautiful day! We’re planning to go out and back to Mt. Karamatsu, but if it’s too hot, we’ll stop at the Maruyama Cairn.” I also ran into two people from Osaka Prefecture and Hakuba Village who told me they were fans of Snownavi.

Rounding things off, I had a conversation with a pair of visitors from Kanagawa Prefecture (pictured), who told me they would look up Snownavi when they got home. They added, “Today, we’re going to climb to the top of Mt. Karamatsu and spend the night at the Karamatsu hut.” It’s a pleasant season to walk the Happo-One Nature Trail, and there were many flowers in bloom along the way.
