Today I met a rider from Nagano City (pictured) who told me, “I love your site and use it all the time in winter! My main hobby is skiing, but I’ve recently gotten into mountain biking, too.” I was slightly worried about the effects of the rain that’s been falling on and off for about a week staring 8/25 (Sun.) and continuing through to last night, but the Hakuba Iwatake MTB PARK was fine and opened on time this morning, as did all the other areas of Iwatake.

The Hitotoki Downhill Mountain Bike Experience (pictured), which had been temporarily suspended since 8/16 (Fri.), resumed operation on 8/29 (Thurs.). It’s possible to return your rental bike and helmet at the 5-Sen South Lift Station, which means you can head straight to CHAVATY HAKUBA or the Hakuba Giant Swing.

I had a conversation with a couple from Tokyo (the girlfriend is pictured, while the boyfriend was taking photos next to me) who commented, “We had no idea there were such beautiful places in Japan. We’re really impressed and so glad we came today!” The boyfriend added, “It’s been really fun! Next time I come, I want to try horse trekking.”

I thought that the news of Typhoon No. 10 would keep people away, but by 10:00 a.m., it was just as busy as a normal weekend. THE CITY BAKERY is still offering its summer-only MINT CHOCOLATE COOKIE SHAKE (JPY800, limited quantities) until 9/18 (Wed.). The HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR terrace (pictured) was a cool and refreshing spot to spend some time, thanks to the occasional, gentle southern breeze blowing through.
