It’s a wonderful time of year that’s cool and comfortable to spend time outside. At the Hakuba Hitotoki-no-mori’s CHUMS RIDGE area, there are slacklines (pictured on the left) that can be used by elementary-school-age children and younger, as well as ring-toss and a flying disc-style target game (pictured, right). The main ridgeline of the three Hakuba peaks was shrouded in clouds, but I was able to see the mountains further south, starting from the technical section of ridge known as Kaerazu-no-ken (pictured). When I arrived at HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR, I could hear excitedly commenting on how spectacular the view was. The wonderful mountain scenery had the children from a family from the Netherlands (pictured), as well as their father and mother, in a state of great excitement.

If you’re in the area, consider trying the Fig Chutney Keema Curry (pictured, ¥1,100) currently on offer from SKYARK’s Soup Stock Tokyo. The curry combines chutney made from figs grown in Hyogo Prefecture with minced beef, and is a pleasant balance of spicy and sweet.

I spoke with a couple from Aichi Prefecture who told me, “We heard that there were a lot of things you can do with your dog here, so we made the trip here to Iwatake for the first time. Take a picture of our girls (pictured)… they’re very cooperative!” The youngest pup couldn’t sit still, so she was being held in her mother’s arms out of frame while this photo was being taken.
