Looking out over the Ushiro-Tateyama Mountain Range from HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR (pictured), I had the thought that the season for autumn leaves is just around the corner. Until the 20th of September, there were many days with unusually high temperatures, and clouds often hung over the mountains, which delayed the progress of the changing leaves by about a week. This morning it was just chilly enough to wear a light jacket.

Depending on the weather, cushions are occasionally provided on the deck behind HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR (pictured). The area is in the trees and moderately shaded, making it a comfortable place to enjoy take-out food from THE CITY BAKERY or elsewhere, even on days when the sun is shining. In other news, the new 10-seater gondola is scheduled to begin operation at Hakuba Iwatake on 12/20 (Fri.).

Today I spoke with two people from Ibaraki who came to Hakuba for the first time with their dog Ren (pictured). They told me, “We came here as soon as we found out that we could bring our dog.” Many people were relaxing on the deck on the southern slope where you can see the village of Hakuba and the countryside surrounding it.

Despite it being a weekday, the Hakuba Giant Swing and Yoo-hoo! Swing were very popular. It felt good. Two people from Kanagawa Prefecture told me, “That was so much fun. The Hakuba Giant Swing is more exciting than the Yoo-hoo! Swing.” Hakuba Iwatake is currently offering a weekday-only activity package that includes Mountain Carts and the Hakuba Giant Swing for only JPY2,100 yen* until 11/10 (Sun.).
