The last early morning operation of the Tsugaike Ropeway (gondola + ropeway), starting at 7:00, will take place from 10/12 (Sat.) to 10/14 (Mon., holiday). The stellar forecast and the peak of the autumn leaves coinciding perfectly with the three-day weekend meant there was a long line at the ticket office before it opened, and the ropeway was full from the first departure at 7:30.

The Watasuge Marsh (pictured) was 60 to 70% of peak color when we last visited (on 10/5), but has now reached its colorful climax. I could hear people talking about how beautiful it was and how the weather and conditions were ideal. I also noticed that most people were stopping often and taking photos of the beautiful golden mountainside with their smartphones and cameras.

Kaede maple trees turn color a little later in the season than nanakamado (Japanese rowan), and were particularly beautiful and in good condition. Also, the red of the sarasadodan (redvein enkianthus) peaking on the Yase-one Ridge was impressive. Please note that, as it is not unusual for the early morning temperature to drop into the single digits at this time of year, there is a risk of slipping on the wooden boardwalk due to frost.

The autumn leaves on the south-facing slope of the Yase-one Ridge (pictured) were wonderful, and the views of the ponds below were also worth seeing. As the sun began to dip behind the rising clouds at 9:00, it felt a little chilly. During this time of year, we recommend dressing in layers or clothes that are easily adjustable.
