With the opening of the Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort on 4/24 (Thu.), both the new gondola and the tipi tents made their green season debut. What a view it was from the gondola’s wide windows! The clouds that brought rain to the area yesterday gradually cleared, giving way to a refreshing blue sky this morning around 9:30 a.m.

Setting foot on the summit of Iwatake for the first time in about five months since 11/16 (Sat.), I was once again impressed by the incredible openness of this standalone peak. Thanks to this morning’s clear weather, the views stretched beyond the Northern Alps to include Mt. Amakazari, Mt. Hiuchi, Mt. Myoko, and the valley landscape below. However, due to the abundant remaining snow this year, the Hakuba Iwatake MTB Park, Mountain Carts, and Nezuko-no-mori forest area have yet to open for the season.

Iwatake’s most popular attraction, the Yoo-hoo! Swing, saw a steady stream of visitors right from the 9 a.m. opening. Over at Hakuba Hitotoki-no-mori, the Hakuba Giant Swing (pictured) was being enjoyed by a group from Thailand and several families. To the left, the view of the Hakuba Happo-One Ridge caught my eye, and stood out for having significantly more snow compared to the same time last year.

I tried a new item at THE CITY BAKERY, the “Hakuba Ham and Cheddar Cheese Croissant Press Sandwich” (pictured, ¥1,350), which was a perfect combination of cheddar cheese, thick Hakuba ham blended with black olives, and a buttery pretzel croissant that filled the air with a rich aroma. It was incredibly satisfying! In upcoming reports, I’ll be introducing HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR, the Yoo-hoo! Swing, and the newly opened tipi tents.
