The “Team Rescue Test Ride & Waxing Experience” was held at the Yuki-no-hiroba on 3/18 (Sat.) and 3/19 (Sun.). A staff member I spoke with (pictured) told me, “Skis tend to slide a little less well during this season when the snow gets soft and loose. That’s why it’s the perfect time to try Rescue Wax. Even in heavy friction “stop snow”, you’lll be able to ski!”

The application of the wax does not require ironing. In fact, it only takes about 10 seconds to do a quick application of the solid wax. I overheard skiers who tried out the wax commenting in surprise at how much easier it was to ski with the wax applied. There were also skis and snowboards (pictured), equipped with a newly-developed sliding surface and structure that can be skied without wax, available for test riding.

Since today was a Kids Ski Free Day, many families were seen enjoying the day on the Kane-no-naru-oka Slope, where the snow has been continuing to melt. I was greeted by some staff members of the HAKUBA BEER GARAGE (pictured), who invited me to come and enjoy a cold beer. It felt quite hot outside today, and a refreshing, cold beer sounded pretty good to be honest.

To my surprise, the groomed snow surface squeak like mid-winter powder as I stepped out of the gondola summit station first thing this morning. A lift man for the Tsuga No. 2 Pair told me, “It snowed all day yesterday, and we got about 20 cm in total. The groomed run today is in excellent condition.” Indeed, the groomed powder snow surface of Tsuga-no-mori was very slick and easy to ski! Han-no-ki was groomed with powder snow in the beginning, a mix of wet and granular snow in the middle, and moderately soft granular snow towards the end.
