Sanosaka REPORT

2023.03.2130cm / Sunny

Sanosaka‘s slopes were in perfect condition right up until the very end! It has been a season with relatively low snowfall nationwide, but the snow melt has been progressing especially quickly in March, and today, 3/21 (Tue., national holiday), was the last day of the season for Sanosaka, five days earlier than originally planned. There were few areas where the ground was exposed, but with the exception of a narrow section on Paradise Downhill, everywhere was OK to ski.

I spoke with six people (pictured) from Hyogo and Osaka, who told me, “We love your site! Since the snow was fading fast, we headed north and made our way here to Hakuba Sanosaka just in time for the “AZ Appreciation Festival” on the last business day.” The grass was not cut on the New Paradise slope (pictured, background) prior to the start of the season, and although there were many bushes sticking out through the snow, there were no areas of exposed soil. Here’s hoping it will be re-opened next season, along with the Lake Down Course!

Members of the JSC Hakuba Sanosaka Racing Center were setting up poles on the Carving Slope. When I thanked them for letting me include them in my reports this season, the coach (pictured, second from right) said, “No, Thank YOU. The members who had their pictures taken were very happy.”

I ran into a father from Miyami Prefecture, who told me he’s a fan of Snownavi and asked me to take a picture of his daughter (pictured), who placed 9th in the All Japan Junior Technical Championships. He continued saying, “We’re moving back to Nagano City in April, so I’m going to be practicing with my daughter up until Golden Week at the ski resorts that are still open.” Anyway, thank you very much for taking the time to read this year’s Sanosaka slope reports. It was nice to have Sanosaka back open again this year, and I’m looking forward to seeing you here for an even better season next year!
