Tsugaike REPORT

2023.03.24162cm / Cloudy

Tsugaike was the only HAKUBA VALLEY resort that had remained “fully open” after 3/20 (Mon.), but due to the early summer-like temperatures on 3/22 (Wed.) and heavy rain last night, the Champion Slope was closed on 3/21 (Tue.), followed by Kane-no-naru-oka and Kane-no-naru-oka 2 yesterday. This development means that the resort is now “mostly open” (= more than 50% open), However, there is still plenty of snow!
[Han-no-ki]

The TG PARKS area located along the Sawa and One Courses closed today, and will be moved to the area alongside the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair Lift (pictured) tomorrow. I spoke with the first snowboarder (first photo) off the gondola, who told me, “I love your site! I’m glad the rain has stopped.” My skis slid well on the groomed, loose granular snow surface along the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair Lift (pictured).
[Han-no-ki]

The width of the groomed snow surface between the middle and the end of Han-no-ki was the width of one or two groomers. In that groomed area (pictured), the loose surface layer became thicker the further I skied down. (*There were a few areas of thinning snow cover on the steep slope in the middle of the Han-no-ki). On the upper portion of the ski resort, the fog was rolling in and out repeatedly, and even the middle to lower portions of the slope were enveloped in a somewhat thick fog.

My skis also slid well on the groomed Oya-no-hara Slope, where the surface of the loose granular snow was noticeably dirty. The Kane-no-naru-oka Skyliner II is running from 8:00 to 11:00 until 3/25 (Sat.) to transport skiers to the upper portion of the resort. (*It is not possible to take the lift down. Operation on 3/26 has not been decided.)
