I came to Yakebitaiyama thinking that the high altitude of Shiga Kogen would make it the perfect choice for a wet day like today, but unfortunately it was raining lightly here as well. Furthermore, due to strong winds, both the First and Second Gondolas were out of service, and the scheduled First Tracks Experience was also canceled. In related news, the First Gondola will start running at 6:00 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays from 4/1 to 4/23 (Sun.), and every day from 4/29 (Sat.) to 5/7 (Sun.)!
[Yakebitaiyama・South Course]
Both the Karamatsu (pictured) and South Slopes, which I accessed using the Fourth Romance and Second Rapid Lifts, which were running this morning, had beautiful, white, groomed surfaces. The granular snow was moderately soft, and my skis ran smoothly and comfortably. However, the light rain that had been falling during the morning intensified around 10:00.

Currently, there are four restaurants in the Yakebitaiyama are that open for lunch: Restaurant Westside (located in the west wing of the Shiga Kogen Prince Hotel), Chinese Restaurant Shishi (located on the 2nd floor of the building next to the same hotel), Ramen Corner (located on the first floor), and Restaurant Mizubasho (located in the south wing of the hotel). I tried the domestic beef sirloin and salad dish (¥3,000) and it was a very tasty pairing of tender Japanese beef and garlic-flavored sesame sauce!

In addition, the Shiga Kogen Prince Hotel is currently offering a variety of accommodation plans such as the “Spring Special Plan,” “Single-Use Plan,” and “Night Check-in Plan.” The South Wing and West Wing have already closed for the season, but the East Wing will remain open until 4/2 (Sun.) (*Pictured above is a suite room in the east wing.)
