Today marks the second consecutive day of rain. The Ikenota Slope was still skiable, with no areas of exposed bushes or thinning snow on the groomed area, which had a moderately soft, granular snow surface. Yesterday turned out to be the last day of the season for the Hiedayama Course 3, Hiedayama One Course, and Hiedayama Course 2, which I skies yesterday without realizing it was the last opportunity to do so.

My skis slid well on the Hiedayama Rinkan Course where the groomed, granular snow surface was moderately packed. The Itadaira and Hiedayama Course 1 were ungroomed with similarly firm granular snow. Although there were some small branches and leaves scattered on all three of those runs, they didn’t affect the skiing, and there was sufficient snow cover on each.

The snow is a concern, however, on the Ikenota Slope. The officially announced base of 100cm was measured at the top of the mountain, but Ikenota is Cortina’s most-skied slope, and the resort’s main concern is whether or not, and for how long, it remains skiable. Running out of snow is most likely to occur in front of the No. 5 Pair Lift (pictured), so today around 10:00, snow was being added to that location.
