REPORT

A mild, west-high east-low pressure system brought a bit of cold weather back to the area late last night, and snow even fell on the top half of the ski area. The trees were also covered in rime ice for the first time in quite a while. I looked up at the steep, ungroomed, and freshly dusted Route 3 as I got off the gondola, and couldn’t help but vocalize my joy at seeing snow again.

It was foggy around the top of Line-C, but not so much that intefered with skiing. The upper portion of the groomed Route 1 (pictured) had a moderately packed granular snow surface. I was able to ski at a good speed on the 2 cm topping of fresh, wet snow.

The lower part of Route 8 (pictured) had a moderately firm, groomed granular snow surface that was also covered in about 2 cm of fresh snow early on. Further down I found a looser snow surface dusted with 1 to 2 cm of new snow. Route 5 and Route 6 were groomed with moderately firm granular snow that was easy to ski with a thin layer of new snow on the surface.

I spoke with two people from Tokyo (pictured), who told me, “We love your site! The snowmelt this year seems to be about 2 to 3 weeks ahead of a normal year. Even so, there is plenty of snow at 47, and we’re still able to ski down to the bottom without issue, so we’re going to stay and ski until 3/30 (Thurs.).” As with the other runs, I didn’t observe any thin patches of snow on the lower part of Route 1, which had a soft, groomed groomed coarse snow surface.
