REPORT

Shiga Kogen Spring Ski Period will start on 4/1 (Sat) and last for about 2 months. We are making reports of 3 areas located on different altitudes of Mt. Yokote Shibu-toge (1,750 – 2,305m) yesterday, Ichinose Diamond, Yamanokami (1,600 – 1,710m) today and Giant, Maruike, Sun Valley (1,325 – 1,602m) tomorrow. By the way, some ski areas are already decided to be closed, such as Hasuike closed on 3/29 (Wed), Maruike, Mt. Higashidate, Mt. Nishidate, Hoppo Bunadaira, Tanne-no-mori on 3/31 (Fri), Sun Valley, Giant, Ichinose Yamanokami on 4/2 (Sun).

This morning with the clear sky, the groomed slope facing the south east of Diamond Area (Photo) was nicely firm and in corn snow condition. The slope was groomed roughly a little, but the snow melted soon, so we could ski comfortably there (*No ground and bushes were exposed.) In Rabbit Course, Niigata City Junior Ski Team (Photo) were doing pole training.

2 families from Kyoto Prefecture (Photo) gave me the greeting, “We always enjoy your reports! We are staying for 2 nights from yesterday. We are surprised to see this much snow in Shiga Kogen!” The slopes of Ichinose Yamanokami Monkey Course (Photo) and Kamoshika Course were very slushy, but my skis ran well.

Today, Diamond Quad was open 15 minutes earlier than usual for group guests (*Any people could take this lift). Ichinose Diamond was busy because people of the group were doing warm-up there, but after the pole training started, Ichinose Family became crowded with families. Ichinose Diamond and Yamanokami were relatively quiet, so we could enjoy wide turns.
