With a low-pressure pattern in the east and high to the west, the three open slopes of Usagidaira, Kurobishi, and Panorama had their first snowfall since 4/9 (Sun.)! As of 8:10 a.m., the Usagidaira Slope (pictured) was shrouded in low cloud cover. Afterward, the clouds were rolling in and out repeatedly, with the snow likewise growing and waning in intensity.

On the deep, irregular moguls covering the steep, ungroomed slope along the Kurobishi 3 Pair Lift (pictured), there was 5 to 10 cm of moist, fresh snow. The moguls weren’t as challenging as they looked in part because the granular snow was reasonably packed, and I found it easy to set my edges and enjoy run after run.

There was about 5 cm of new snow on the moderately firm, groomed granular snow surfaces paralleling the Kurobishi 2 Quad (pictured) and on the southern portion of Usagidaira. The snow there was also moist and heavy, but easy to ski, and as one skier said to me: “It’s better than I expected!”

The 2023 – 2024 Model Ski Test Ride and Pre-Order Event was in front of the Usagidaira Terrace, and visitors were able to try out 173 models of new skis for next season from 17 different brands (pictured, from 4/15 to 4/17). The same test-ride event will is also scheduled for Goryu from 4/22 (Sat.) to 4/24 (Mon.). The Skyline Course, which was hit by rain on 4/15 (Sat.), is now closed for the season, and the Panorama Course was closed all day on 4/17 (Mon.), leaving Usagidaira and Kurobishi as the only skiable slopes this morning.
