Tsugaike REPORT

2023.04.1790cm / Snow to Sun

My last report for Tsugaike Kogen Ski Resort this season fell on a snowy day! The cold, light rain falling at the base of the mountain turned to light snow around the top of the Shirakaba Slope as I made my way to the summit via the gondola. As I exited the gondola, I found that the area around the summit station (pictured) had about 3 cm of wet, fresh snow.

I ran into a digger (pictured) prepping the park, who told me, “I love your site. We got some pretty good snow, so I think the conditions have improved.” Currently, TG PARKS has a wide box, a pipe (pictured), a series of 7-meter, 9-meter, and 3 x 3-meter table tops, while the hike-up area in front of JACKY’S Kitchen has a 6-meter fat rail, 6-meter rail, and 4-meter box.

I spoke with the mother (pictured, right) of a family from Ishikawa Prefecture who said she was a fan of the Snownavi site, and added, “My daughter (pictured, left) started competing in banked slalom this season, so we came here to practice on the course in Tsuga-no-mori.” Although the width of the course is limited, the groomed surface was a mix of granular and fresh snow topped with fresh snow, which made it very easy to ski.

Two Snownavi users from Aichi Prefecture (pictured) who were riding on the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair Lift told me, “Park conditions were a little tough with the 3 or so centimeters of fresh snow, but it was still fun!” Just like they said, my skis didn’t slide smoothly at first inside TG PARKS, but once the new snow and the underlying granular snow started to blend together as tracks were laid, it became easier to ski. Anyway, a big thank you to everyone for reading this season’s Tsugaike slope reports! The ski resort is scheduled to remain open until 5/7 (Sun.), as long as there is enough snow!
