There’s nothing to complain about with this much snow already! With early heavy snowfall on the mountain, Hakuba Happo-One Ski Resort opened today, 11/30 (Thurs).), for the 2023-24 winter season; one day earlier than scheduled. Today not only the ski resort, but also Snow Peak LAND STATION HAKUBA (pictured) and other areas at the foot of the mountain were covered with 5 to 6 cm of snow, making for slippery conditions on the slush-covered roads.

The Gondola and Panorama Pair were in operation, and the open terrain consisted of the north side of the Panorama Course and the Panorama Forest Road Course (a.k.a. Panorin). The north side of the Panorama Course (pictured) was groomed to the width of 3 to 4 grooming machines and had a moderately firm, even snow surface. Conditions were very pleasant, thanks in part to the 10 to 15 cm of dry fresh snow topping things off.

I ran into a group of five local visitors from Hakuba and Otari villages (pictured), who told me, “We love your site! It’s great to have powder from the first day!” The steep slope at the end of the north side of the Panorama Course (pictured) was well-packed with no exposed underbrush, and knee-deep powder could be found on the ungroomed portion of the run to skier’s left.

Panorin (pictured) was also in good condition with around 10 cm of fresh snow on top of a moderately-firm, groomed snow surface. At the end of the smooth, untouched Usagidaira Slope, the amount of new snow was measured to be more than 75cm. The only facility open at the moment is Yeti on the Usagidaira Terrace, which is open only for breaks at the moment. (No food or beverage service is currently available).
