Happo-one REPORT

2023.12.02106cm / Snowy

This morning I spoke with a group of 5 skiers (pictured) from Osaka, Kyoto, and Tokyo, who told me, “We love your site! Today at Happo is our first day of the season. The Panorama Course is pretty good, but we hope they open up the upper portion of the resort soon. We’ll be patiently waiting!” The Panorama Course is still the only course that can be skied on this first weekend of the season, but the conditions were good with some thin fog and lightly falling dry snow.

There was plenty of snow on the north side of the Panorama Course, not only on the top half, but also at the bottom (pictured), and there were no areas with exposed bushes or dirt. The well-packed groomed snow surface was covered with about 2 cm of light, fresh snow that I found comfortable and easy to ski. Guests were slow to turnout to the slopes this morning, with only a few people waiting in line to board the lifts.

On the south side of Panorama, the top half was groomed to the full width of the course for the first time today, and the conditions were just as good as on the north side. The border between the groomed middle section of the run and the ungroomed final section was marked with poles warning that the course narrowed from that point forward.

I had a chat with a skier from Tokyo (pictured) who was wearing “ita-ita” (anime-inspired skis). They told me they were a fan of Snownavi, and added, “This is my first day of the season. I’ve been coming to Happo for almost 20 years. I didn’t expect to be able to start skiing so soon.” The zigzaggin Panorin Course (pictured) had a different feel from the north and south sides of Panorama, making for an enjoyable change of pace.
