Happo-one REPORT

2023.12.04105cm / Sunny

The weather cleared up for the first time today following the six consecutive days of snowfall that kicked off the season. The temperature dropped all the way down to -5℃ in front of the Usagidaira Terrace at 8:10 due to overnight radiative cooling, but there was no wind at all, and it didn’t feel particularly cold. I enjoyed some comfortable runs on the Panorama Course (pictured), where the groomed surface was composed of moderately soft powder snow.

There was about 10cm of light fresh snow on the ungroomed area (pictured) to the skier’s right of the south side of Panorama. As I was considering whether to drop in for a powder run or attack the groomers, I heard cheers of joy from the steady stream of skiers going for the powder…. And, even after a lot of tracks had been laid down, the dry, high quality snow still provided plenty of float.

Because the groomed area along the Kokusai 3 Pair was in full sunlight, the surface snow became slightly damp around 9:00 a.m. The early to mid portion of Panorin (pictured) remained in the shade, preserving the nice, dry snow. I noticed some skiers cutting the curves along the winding forest path in search of powder.

This morning I spoke to a man from Toyama Prefecture (pictured, left) who told me, “I am really excited to meet someone from Snownavi for the first time! I came here to practice with my friend (pictured, right) for the Toyama Skiing Skills Championships to be held in January. The snow quality is fantastic!” By the way, there are currently two restaurants open: Sun Terrace Panorama (pictured, now serving drinks and snacks only) and Yeti (serving both drinks and food).
