The long-awaited opening of more terrain at Happo is now official! The Usagidaira Slope (pictured, background) and Kurobishi Slope will open tomorrow, 12/8 (Fri.), bringing the total to three open slope areas. With the expansion of skiable terrain, the special discount prices available up until today will end, and starting tomorrow, off-peak early season prices will kick in; ¥5,000 yen for adults, ¥4,500 yen for seniors 65 and older, and ¥1,500 yen for kids 6 to 17 years old.

The rain that began falling at the foot of the mountain this morning was coming down as snow higher on the mountain. As for conditions, the Panorama Course (pictured) was groomed with a well-packed wet snow surface perfect for cruising at high speeds. And, with a weather forecast calling for rain on a weekday leading to a slow visitor turnout, I was able to enjoy the feeling of lapping runs on my own private slope.

Panorin (pictured) had a similarly groomed, firm wet snow surface. I spoke with a skier from Toyama Prefecture who told me, “I love your site! I have been staying in my car and skiing since Saturday. I am looking forward to Usagidaira and Kurobishi opening tomorrow.”

Thank you to everyone else whom I spoke to or otherwise engaged with today. In other news, a BLASTRACK TEST RIDE event will take place in front of the Usagidaira Terrace on 12/23 (Sat.) and 12/24 (Sun.), with a 2024 ID one ski test event held at the Nakiyama Slope on the same days.
