REPORT

The three-day period from 12/8 (Fri.) to 12/10 (Sun.) was marked by warm, windless sunny skies. Light rain fell across the area in the pre-dawn hours, bringing snow to the top of the Usagidaira Slope (photo), which had a groomed wet snow surface. The top layer was hard, but my edges held firm and I was able to ski comfortably at speed.

While there was almost no wind to speak of, fog moved in and out over the slopes. The lack of sunlight and the high moisture content in the air made it feel colder than the actual temperature. The area along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured) had a moderately firm, groomed wet snow surface that I found easier to ski than Usagidaira.

I spoke with a group of four people from Tokyo (pictured), who told me, “We love your site, and are looking forward to this season’s resort reports! It’s a lot easier to ski here than on the man-made snow at the resort we went to the other day.” The snow on the Panorama Course includes a mixture of natural and artificial snow, but was just as good as Usagidaira, with the same firm, groomed surface.

By the way, yesterday, 12/10 (Sun.), both Usagidaira and the area parallel to the Kurobishi Quad (pictured) had moderately soft, groomed powder snow surfaces. Actually, I hit the slopes yesterday as well for the purpose of compiling a report, but I had some trouble with my equipment and had to call it quits. Sorry for the inconvenience, and to veryone who posed for pictures for me!
