Since our last slope report, there’s been an extended stretch of warm weather that continued for more than a week. During that time, the Tsuga-no-mori Slope and Gotemba Courses have been closed due to the melting snow, leaving only one open run; the area alongside the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair Lift. Luckily,n Tsugaike seems to have made it through the worst of the warm weather, and has remained open every day since the season started on 11/30 (Thurs.). As I rode the gondola up this morning, small flakes of snow were falling densely.

On the mountain, it felt extremely cold, enough to seem as if yesterday’s warm weather was just a dream. There was about 5cm of fresh snow covering the area along the Han-no-ki High-Speed pair, where the groomed surface was moderately soft up top, and hardening slightly towards the end of the run. I spoke with a snowboarder from Toyama who told me they were a fan of Snownavi, and added, “I debated whether to come or not because it seemed like the wind was pretty strong, but I’m glad I did.”

I also caught up with four visitors from Osaka (pictured). They told me they were worried there wouldn’t be any snow, but were happy to find out there was a lot! They asked me if there were any other courses open, but unfortunately not. The Tsuga-no-mori Slope will reopen as soon as conditions allow. By the way, the Central Parking Lot is open and free of charge until 12/22 (Fri.).

I ran into a member of the ski patrol who said what everyone was thinking, “I hope it keeps coming down!” Today there was a strong northwesterly wind, and the light snow that had accumulated was sometimes kicked up and blown around by the strong gusts (pictured). Crowds were typical of the weekend, and at 10:30 a.m., there was about a 15-minute line to ride the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair Lift.
