On this fine morning with blue skies and wispy clouds, the 5th Pair Lift began moving at 10:00 a.m., opening up both the Giant and Itadaira Forest Course for skiing. Conditions were excellent on the Ipponmatsu Course (pictured), where the fresh snow of the last few days had been pressed into a moderately firm, powder snow surface by the groomers! Although I did observe some bushes at the end of the course, they did not affect the skiing in any way.

I spoke with four people from Gunma, Shizuoka, and Nagano prefectures (pictured), who told me, “We love your site! We’re a group of sponsored skiers and fans of Island Joy. You should check their original monoski.” The Ikenota Slope also had a moderately packed, groomed powder snow surface that was easy to ski.

It goes without saying, but the groomed courses on the upper portion of the ski resort, the Hiedayama Forest Course (pictured) and Itadaira Forest Course were also extremely skiable with tight, packed powder surfaces. The ungroomed Hiedayama Course 1 was somewhat tracked out, but the snow was dry and soft, making it possible to charge down. The Itadaira Course was left ungroomed with some long grassy stalks protruding through the snow.
