The Toomi Slope, which has been open for night skiing since 12/26 (Tue.), is now also open for sunrise skiing as of today, 12/29 (Fri.). During sunrise skiing this morning, I ran into a group of skiers and boarders from various places at 7:05 who told me they were fans of Snownavi and asked me to take their picture with the sunrise in the background (pictured). One of the members was Monster Cliff’s Sato-san (pictured, fourth from left), who added, “When I arrived at the Sky Four boarding area before 6:30, there were already people waiting in line. Everyone is really fired up.”

As the Toomi Sky Four got started, there was light sleet around the base area and light snow falling on the upper half of the Toomi Slope (pictured, where around 1 to 3cm of fresh snow topped the moderately firm, groomed wet snow surface. The last part of the slope was also groomed, but had a firmer surface composed of snow with a high moisture content. My skis slid smoothly and my edges gripped well, and I was able to make comfortable turns on repeat.

The snow had stopped at Alps-Daira by 8:30am, and the ungroomed part of the Grand Prix Course (pictured) had about 10 cm of dry, fresh snow. There, through the thick fog, I could hear people yelling in delight and exclaiming how good the new snow felt. On the other hand, over at the Technical Course, which also had 10cm of dry, fresh snow, I heard voices complaining about the hardness of the base.

Blue skies could be seen around the upper portion of the ski resort (pictured) before the clouds that had been hovering at lower levels drifted higher and enveloped the area in fog as shown in the third photo. The Panorama Course had 4 to 7 cm of light fresh snow on top of the moderately firm, groomed wet snow base. Meanwhile, the ungroomed Dynamic and Expert courses had difficult conditions, so an announcement was made to encourage beginners and intermediate skiers to descend via the Goryu Telecabin. In other news, the Merry Land Course has been open since yesterday, 12/28 (Thurs.).
