Today I spoke with two snowboarders from Matsumoto (pictured) who told me, “We love your site. We’re Iwatake season pass holders and have been boarding here every day since it opened for the season. Oh,… but yesterday we cheated and went to Goryu47 (lol).” Temperatures dropped sharply overnight and into this morning, and it felt very cold on the Mountain Side, where rime ice continues to form on the trees.

Conditions were excellent on the East (first photo) and North slopes, where the groomed wet snow surfaces had the feeling of powder! I caught up with a family from Saitama Prefecture (pictured), and was told, “We’re staying two nights at Schole Hakuba and skiing at Hakuba Iwatake for the first time this season. It’s very easy to ski and we’re having a great time.”

Around 9:30, the top of Iwatake was getting busy with skiers, snowboarders, and foreign tourists. In other news, the Sunny Valley course and the South Slope will open tomorrow, 12/29 (Fri.), making it possible to ski all the way down to the bottom of the mountain! CHAVATY Hakuba will also begin its winter operation.
