This morning I crossed paths with two people from Aichi (pictured, foreground) and Shizuoka prefectures (pictured, red jacket), who told me, “We love your site, and often decide which ski resort to go to based on your slope reports and snowfall information.” When I asked if they were a couple, they answered, “No, no we’re not married… and we’re not having an affair either.” It was a calm sunny day with many a lot of clouds, and occasional light snow flurries.

The Hiedayama Forest Course (pictured) and Ikenota Slope (first photo) had groomed wet snow surfaces with a powdery feel. The conditions allowed my skis to slid smoothly across the snow and made for enjoyable, comfortable turns. The areas of thinning snow that had formed near the top of the Ikenota Course yesterday were almost completely restored thanks to work which brought snow from other areas.

I spoke with a married couple from Osaka (pictured), who told me they were fans of Snownavi, and added, “The other day we had a reporter from Snownavi take our picture at the Kumanoyu ski area, so it’s a nice surprise to see someone from Snownavi on our first ever visit to Cortina! We actually decided to come to Cortina & Hakunori after reading yesterday’s slope report and are staying at the Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba.” The Ipponmatsu Course (pictured) was ungroomed and had packed tracks and bumps formed across the snow surface.

The ungroomed Hiedayama Course 1 was covered with small to medium-sized moguls. The shaved snow that topped the moguls felt surprisingly soft, and made it easier to ski than it looked. Incidentally, snow is forecasted to start tonight and continue through to the morning of 1/8 (Mon.). Expectations are high that this storm will bring about the first “Powder Festival” in a while!
