Ninja Snow Highland, which started the season on 12/27 (Wed.) with only the Gomarugo Course, has since opened Blackbeat (pictured), Ukai Nin, Shine, and Drago, and today, 1/6 (Sat.), Alekokoo opened, bringing the total to 6 open runs. This morning I was greeted by five visitors (pictured) from Shizuoka, Kanagawa, and Nagano prefectures, who told me, “We love your site! We all met through X (Twitter). We posted about about the good conditions yesterday and it looks like about a dozen of our friends who saw it and are going to come today.”

On Blackbeat (pictured, Max. 23 degrees, Length 600 meters), my skis slid well on the groomed, hard wet snow surface, and I was able to accelerate quickly around the midpoint of the slope, where the slope angle increases. There were a few partially exposed bushes along the way, but they didn’t hinder the skiing. I saw several snowboarders challenging themselves on the nearby, ungroomed Alekoko course, which had a few areas with tall grass poking through the snow.

A staff member informed me, “The surface layer of snow on all trails is natural. We plan to have all terrain open next weekend on 1/13 (Sat.).” Although it was the first day of a three-day weekend, visitor turnout was slow, and since most of the courses that can be skied now face west, the slopes remained in the shade even after 9:00 a.m., keeping them in good condition.

The broad Drago Slope (pictured, Max. 22 degrees, Length 900m) had been groomed to the width of 2 to 3 grooming machines on both sides. However, there were some undulations on the snow surface as well as some areas of exposed brush. Advanced skiers were out in number early in the morning, but by around 10:00 a.m., more and more families could be seen skiing slowly on Gomarugo (Max. 8 degrees, Length 1,800 meters).
