The Hinode Slope (pictured), which has been open daily since 12/23 (Sat.), also has a marked slalom course available for reservation, and on this first day of the three-day weekend, visitors could be seen practicing giant slalom there early in the morning. The slope can be reserved free of charge between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 pm, but there is a fee (¥110,000, including tax) for early morning and nighttime use when the lights are on. Those wishing to use the slope need to fill out and fax the application form (PDF).
[Hinode Slope]
The Hinode Slope, which has a maximum slope angle of 27 degrees, an average of 17 degrees, and a length of 500 meters, starts out steep and gradually becomes gentler as the course grows wider. This morning, the groomed wet snow surface was hard packed. The resort officially opened for business at 8:30 a.m., at which time the beginner-friendly Hinode Rinkan (Forest) Course also opened.
[Hinode Slope]
The parking lot in front of Ura Taro Family was full by around 10:30 a.m. Ura Davos Heart-no-Mori (Max. 17 degrees, Avg. 10 degrees, Length 430 meters), was also groomed with a hard, wet snow surface, and was busy with parents, children, and ski school lessons. Overall, the gentle, straight slope was easy to ski.
[Ura Davos・Heart-no-Mori]
The temperature did not feel cold today, even with the weak southerly wind, possibly because of the intense sunshine. The Ura Davos Heart-no-Mori Course and the Beat Lift station in Omote Davos are connected by a long, gentle descending slope. If you then take the Beat Lift, you can ski into the Oku Davos Family area. In other news, a shuttle bus (¥200 per ride) will be in service from 1/6 (Sat.) to 1/8 (Mon.).
