This morning a northewesterly wind was blowing and dry snow was coming down hard. The 4-Sen East Lift got moving on time at 8:15 a.m., while the 5-Sen South line (pictured) was delayed because of snow removal work. The energy of the crowd waiting in front of the control ropes on the South Slope and on VIEW C (pictured) was high, as this storm brought the most snow since the opening day.
[VIEW C]
When the restrictions were lifted on the South Slope at 9:00, visitors began dropping in in droves. There was 10 to 15cm of light, new snow covering the moderately soft, groomed powder snow surface on the South Slope, and a whopping 40 to 45cm of fresh snow on the ungroomed sides of the run. After clearing the first, gentle part of the slope (pictured), I was able to gain more speed and enjoy cruising through the fresh snow.

VIEW C and the North Slope opened at 9:00. I ran into three members of the Shinshu University Demonstration Skiing Club (pictured), who were skiing on the South Slope, and said, “Our club has a lot of members this year, and we’re aiming for the overall championship in both the men’s and women’s categories for demonstration skiing at the Iwatake National Student Ski Competition starting on 3/3 (Sun.)!”

Similar to South, the East Slope had 5 to 10cm of new snow topping the moderately soft, groomed powder snow surface, and around 40cm of fresh snow in the ungroomed areas to the side of the course. The Sunny Valley course had around 5cm of new snow on the course, and the groomed powder snow was reasonably firm towards the top (pictured), transitioning to harder packed wet snow from the middle onward. The ungroomed areas had 30 to 35cm of fresh, fluffy snow.
