All of Shiga Kogen’s ski areas are now open as of 1/3 (Wed.), including Tannenomori Okojo (pictured), which makes it easy to go back and forth between Ichinose Family and Takamagahara. This morning the Tannenomori Okojo Slope was groomed to the width of one to two grooming machines, and in good condition with soft powder snow that was easy to ski.

I spoke with five visitors from Kyoto (pictured), who told me, “We love your site!” The lady with the blue helmet added, “I’m renting a room in Nakano City during the winter season and board almost every day. The big dump on 1/8 (Mon.) was a real game changer! Today, too, the snow quality is great, and squeaks when you step on it.” [Ichinose Family・Front Slope]
Irregular tracks and surface bumps had formed on the north side of Takamagahara Mammoth’s Takamagahara Quad. The south side of the course (pictured) was groomed with a moderately soft, powder snow surface, and skiers could be seen slowing down due to the poor visibility resultig from the snow and fog that rolled in around 7:30 a.m.

The temperature dropped all the way down to -9℃ first thing this morning, and didn’t warm up much later on, but the windless conditions meant that it didn’t feel particularly cold. Groups of students on a school excursion began their group ski and snowboard lessons around 9:00 a.m., filling the central area with a festive atmosphere.
