REPORT

As of today, the tree run courses SAWA and SAWA II, as well as the newly-created SAWA III are now open! Thanks to the heavy snowfall of 1/7 (Sun.) and 1/8 (Mon.), Madarao has been able to increase the number of open runs to 20! (You can of course ski over to Tangram as well.) This morning, the wind was blowing from the west and dense flakes of snow were coming down hard.

The roughly 7cm of fluffy new snow covering the the firm, groomed powder surface of Champion (pictured) felt great. The Giant and Carving courses had about 5cm of fresh snow, and were groomed, but softer than the Champion Course. Many skiers seemed to be running laps of these three courses using the No. 2 Quad.

The No. 2 Quad can also be used to ski the gently sloping Shirakaba Course. In addition, the No. 1 Lift, sitting just opposite of the No. 2 Quad, serves the four beginner slopes of Paradise, Beginner A, Beginner B, and Utopia, so beginner skiers and boarders can enjoy five runs with only these two lifts. On Utopia (pictured), which had a moderately soft, groomed powder snow surface, I could hear people talking about how nice the soft snow felt.

I ran into the owner of AKI’S BURGER located in the Tyrol building (pictured, background), who told me, “Good morning, Snownavi! It started snowing in earnest around 7:00 this morning. Please come check out our restaurant and grab one of the limited quantity of burgers.” Please come to our restaurant for one of the burgers in limited supply.” In other news, a new Izakaya restaurant “Brian” opened inside the Madarao Kogen Hotel in December of 2023.
