Although there was no wind in the morning, the entire sky was shrouded in thick clouds, and the brisk -5°C temperature made my fingers numb as I held the camera. Conditions were fantastic on the Panorama Course (pictured), where yesterday’s fresh, dry snow had been mixed into the moderately-firm, groomed powder surface! My edges gripped and held the surface well, and I had some enjoyable turns.

The groomed areas of Usagidaira and Kurobishi (pictured) had somewhat soft, groomed powder snow that rose in a plume behind me with each turn. The groomed snow on the Skyline Course was a little firmer than that of Usagidaira and Kurobishi. Kurobishi and Skyline’s ungroomed areas were still marked with the tracks from yesterday, but were easy to ski thanks to the soft snow.

Physical education classes for Hakuba Kita Elementary School students were being held on the Sakka Slope (pictured) and Kitaone Course. The instructor from Hakuba Happo-One Ski & Snowboard School asked the 3rd graders, “Do you know Snownavi?” Several replied enthusiastically that they did, with one adding that their father checks the site a lot, and another saying they had their picture taken by a report last year.

The Hakuba Happo-One Ski & Snowboard School is now accepting entries for the Hakuba Happo-One Kids Ski Skills Competition until the deadline on 3/10 (Sun.). There are also plans to hold a practice camp the day before the competition on 3/17 (Sun.). In other news, the Riesen Grat Course opened for skiing today at 10:30!
