REPORT

It was a calm morning with high clouds that still afforded nice views of the Northern Alps ridgeline. The cloud cover choked out the sunlight and kept the temperature down, which meant that the slopes stayed in good condition for a long time. The Wakaguri Central Slope (pictured) was groomed with a moderately-firm powder snow surface, and I used the 400-meter width of the slope to get in some fun, fast runs.

I was greeted by a skier from Tokyo (pictured), who told me, “I came here by myself on a package with Orion Tour. This is my first time at Hakunori, and I’m staying at the Hakuba Alps Hotel tonight.” The Rabbit Course (pictured), which opened on 1/8 (Mon., holiday), was groomed with well-packed powder snow, and there were no areas with exposed bushes or thin snow cover.

I had a conversation with a professor from the Nippon Sport Science University (pictured, right) who was here on a research trip. He told me he was a fan of Snownavi, and added, “I checked out your slope report last night.” When his students jokingly said that they had checked as well, he responded, “No you didn’t, but I’m going to make you check every day now!” The ungroomed portion of the Rabbit Course had somewhat hard, tracks and surface bumps.

Thanks to the heavy snowfall on 1/8 (Mon., holiday) and yesterday, the conditions on the Satomi Central Slope (pictured) and Satomi Ridge Course have dramatically improved, and the bushes and other obstacles are completely gone. My skis slid well on the well-packed, groomed powder snow.
