Before the resort opened today, I ran across a terrain park digger (pictured), who greeted me and said, “I’d love it if you introduced the Uenotaira Snow Park in your report.” Well, currently there’s a 4-meter rainbow BOX, a 4-meter wide BOX, a 4-meter rail and a wave element set up along the Uenotaira Quad at the beginning of the park, along with a 4-meter kicker and 2 waves from the middle to the end of the park. All of them are maintained daily and the park is set up so that even beginner park skiers and riders can try it out.

The moderately-firm, groomed snow surface of the Uenotaira Slope felt fantastic. It was there that I spoke with three people from Tokyo, who told me, “We’re staying the night at Nozawa Onsen tonight. Since our accommodation doesn’t include dinner, we’re going to head to the center of the village and find a restaurant to eat at. We’re also looking forward to doing some onsen (hot spring) hopping.” Indeed, Nozawa is a great place for après-ski.
[Uenotaira Slope]
The beginning of the Paradise Slope (pictured) had a moderately-packed, groomed wet snow surface that felt like powder, while the groomed surface rom the middle to end of the run was noticeably firmer. The Champion, Forest, and Kumataka courses, as well as the Hikage and Nagasaka slope areas had similarly-firm, groomed wet snow. I enjoyed a long run all the way down to the foot of the mountain, which really gave me a sense for and appreciation of the scale of the resort.
